Nursing Education - Angela Norman, MNSc, ACNP-BC
The Department of Nursing Education at AHEC-SA recognizes that professional development in nursing is a lifelong process of active participation in learning activities that assist in developing and maintaining continuing competence, enhancing professional practice, and supporting achievement of career goals. The Department of Nursing Education at AHEC-SA supports the mission and program goals of AHEC through collaboration with the health care community to provide continuing education programs for the professional development of nurses, as well as enhanced access to college courses through distance education programs for RN's seeking a BSN or MNSc to prepare for professional practice, advanced practice, teaching, and administrative roles thereby enhancing health care for the people in South Arkansas. Behavioral Science - Michael Fitts, Psy.D.
AHEC SA Department of Behavioral Science provides residents, faculty, patients, and community organizations with assistance in accessing behavioral, psychological, and mental health services. Services provided are counseling, consultation, referral assistance, assessment, screening, patient education, and continuing education programs related to mental and behavioral health concerns.he mission of AHEC South

College of Health Related Professions - Michael Fitts, Psy.D.
The Department of Health Information Management offers the Associate of Science degree in Medical Record Technology from UAMS. Courses are offered through the Internet and compressed video locally. Additional information can be found at the College of Health Related Professions web site.

UAMS/AHEC South Arkansas Continuing Education - Michael Fitts, Psy.D.
AHEC SA provides a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary, live continuing education programs through monthly conferences such as the recurring Chest/Tumor, Interdisciplinary Breast Care, Tumor Conferences, and Cardiology Lectures. Programs offered over compressed video weekly are the Pediatric Grand Rounds, Geriatric Grand Rounds and the High Risk OB. Other presentations are offered over the compressed video as available on a monthly basis. AHEC SA targets health care professionals working in various settings, such as hospitals, long term care facilities, or public health settings. A UAMS Education Satellite Center has been developed at Magnolia Hospital. Continuing Education programs are conducted locally on a monthly basis.

Health Careers Recruitment - Michael Fitts, Psy.D.
AHEC SA offers opportunities to discover more about health careers every summer during a two week program known as M*A*S*H. This summer enrichment program uses hands-on experiences to help integrate classroom science skills with health sciences in a professional setting.

Community Outreach
AHEC SA promotes and facilitates cooperation and coordination among communities, health care providers, educational institutions and health-related organizations. Current programs include TOUCH (Tremendous Opportunity for Union County Health) Coalition, SA HELLO, (South Arkansas Health Education, Living and Life Options), QUAD CO (Calhoun, Dallas, Ouachita, and Union County Arkansas Delta Rural Development Network), and Union County LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee).
